Current Experiments and Expressions

At any particular time I usually have to put in time and effort to clear space on my studio table. I am always surrounded by unfinished works (it's a curse!), experiments, natural materials from a recent walk or the garden, notes, quick sketches, and other bits that contribute to the chaos in my studio. Often I have gems hiding in unexpected corners because of this, and sometimes I am able to group together things that really work well together. Here's a selection of some of the many things that are currently occupying surface space in the studio:

A beautiful richly-coloured soil from the garden. I have no idea what I would like to do with it, I might end up making it finer with my mortar-and-pestle, and taking a photo of it strewn onto a piece of glass - then using the photo in the Nuances work I am currently working on.

Some abstract sketches, possibly in preparation of some of the bigger works for my exhibition:

Time flies at Studio 41

I can't believe that I've been in my new studio for 2 months already! Situated in the Fringe District of Cape Town, perfectly perched for Design Capital 2014, Studio 41 is a hub of activity. With 8 studios, of which I occupy Studio 3, there's almost always someone at the studio - working, creating, chilling, chatting, networking or meeting new people. During Cape Town Creative Week the studio hosted events every day for 11 days. These are some photographs taken at these events:

Pasella skietdag vir GYA

GYA (Green Your Art) verskyn 23 November 2011 op Pasella, waarin ons vir die kyker wys hoe om papier, rysmeelgom en kleursel vanaf plantmateriaal te maak... Hier is 'n paar foto's van die skietdag wat by Doodle Creative Space in Vredehoek plaasgevind het.

Pasella-aanbieder Crystal-Donna het hierdie kunswerkie gemaak na my en Nicolle se demonstrasies

More about the space:

Last week I dragged hubby to the Space for a session of working with clay. Pierre made a small bust, and I made a very organic-looking flowering container. They're still on the drying rack at the space, which explains the lack of photographs of these pieces. Doodle Creative Space is very well equipped for painting, ceramics, pottery, mosaics, and almost any other arty thing that you could think of save for metalwork. The prices for sessions, classes, space and materials are incredibly reasonable, and the atmosphere is comfortable, creative and wonderful. Bring a bottle of wine and snacks to enjoy while you create, and make use of the balcony to take a break and take in some fresh air. Here's the contact information for the space:
