A quick update on a chilly Grahamstown afternoon

Here is two more examples of the contributions of participants during SAND(SPOOR] at the Arts Lounge in Somerset Street. Each person used natural materials to make a mark, track or spoor onto the canvas.

If you're at the National Arts Festival, DO NOT MISS the 2052 Karoo Art Exhibition at the Baptist Church in Bathurst Street! I visited the exhibition today, spent a considerable amount of time contemplating each artwork, and was truly moved by the artworks and what each artist were expressing through his/her work. The overriding message and theme is that it is the year 2052, and the shale gas in the belly of the Karoo has been obtained through hydraulic fracturing, or 'fracking'. A desolate landscape, death, sadness - this is the heritage left by the mining or gas companies.

Although I don't have any photos, I also want to recommend the show "Have you seen me?" by Stellenbosch University. A production with talented actors, dancers and singers, with a moving story/ies and message, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and was literally moved to tears. Well done, guys!!

  2. Dankie Johan. It was incredible to have people participate and contribute in their own way, expressing their own creativity!
